Broken Britain

People are so quick to react to things - whether it be something that someone said or a look that is taken to be threatening, or by nothing at all and people are attacked and sometimes killed for it.
It seems silly to me and unjustified and most cases are completely unprovoked which makes it more unbelievable.
Things are happening in this society that I can't understand, the elderly are being attacked and robbed, innocent people are being killed just for being at the wrong place at the wrong time, even children are being killed in the crossfire and personally I think that this violence and hate needs to stop.
I try to understand what drives people to commit these vicious crimes, what goes through their heads, what are their reasons. It seems there are none.
Although, I do think that some are out to prove something to themselves, to society, to their gang and therefore seeking acceptance. Or it could be that they are looking for a thrill, a sense of danger, something that makes them feel invincible and powerful and therefore preying on someone who is vulnerable and helpless - like a lamb to the slaughter.
They excuse their actions by playing the victim and feeling sorry for themselves, blaming other people for their misfortunes and failures, taking out their frustrations on all of society and nothing is being done about it.
I think we all have a responsibility to do something. We need to work together as a nation to fight back against the opposition and tackle youth and hate crime and gang culture.
More importantly we need the help of God, we need help to make a change. We need God with us to fight- like David fought against Goliath and we need God's help to restore broken Britain. Amen

London Riots 2011

When I watched the devastating images of the London riots my first reaction was of utter disbelief and confusing as I tried to get my head around what was happening, how could this happen but that confusion soon turned to anger that those kids felt they had the right to behave that way, that that behaviour was acceptable. They think that society owed them a favour, that they were the victims, but society owed them nothing when they gave nothing in return. They wanted laptops and plasma TV's, they wanted new clothes and trainers, they wanted everything but were unwilling to work for it, to earn it. They demanded respect but hadn't the respect for other people, they wanted to be heard but wouldn't stop to listen and all we could do was sit back and watch as they destroyed our city. I then began to feel sad that that was the society I lived in, those were kids with no compassion for other people and those kids had no moral compass whatsoever and parents that were not taking re...

The things that matter.

We are so blind to what God has put in front of us, so distracted by the materialism of this world and by our own shallow existence that we have become more concerned by our own vanity and how we look and our outwardly appearance. Our lives are mostly centred around living a glamourous lifestyle, centred around fame, money and possessions, centred around sex and relationships, centred around reputation. Our lifestyles today are about keeping up with the joneses, being the toughest, being the best, w e've forgotten to see the beauty around us.  We've forgotten that we are beautiful with or without make up, inside and out. We've forgotten that fame is when we are idolised by our children, our friends and our family, knowing that whatever we do we will always be stars in their eyes.  We've forgotten the riches of life, the simple pleasures that cost nothing but mean the world - a  heartwarming hug, a passiona...

Journey towards God

The parable of the scattering of seeds in Mark 4:13-20 highlights my journey with God and in the past I was a person who  heard the message and immediately received it with joy.  But since I didn’t have deep roots, I didn’t last long. I fell away as soon as I had problems or I was persecuted for believing God’s word  but this is no longer true for me. I have gone through some testing times but I have remained in Christ throughout. Today I feel that I fall into the category where I  hear God’s word,   but all too quickly the message is crowded out by the worries of this life, the lure of wealth, and the desire for other things, so no fruit is produced.  Now I know this isn't the ideal position to be in but it gives me hope that I am moving forward - slowly but surely.  I  desperately want to have a more intimate relationship with God, I want to hear  and accept God’s word and produce a harvest.  I...
